To me, the purest and most appealing art is one that is honest. It should be honest in it's delivery and in what it wants to be. When a "good" artist tries to externalise an intimate and honest expression onto a canvas, he/she uses all tools and means necessary to achieve just that. The desire to do so should be so strong, that he/she forces himself/herself to grow better in all aspects of his/her artistry in order to create what he/she believes has to be created. The urge should be so intense that the artist simply can't move on until he/she achieves his/her vision.
If this is your process when creating, then it's a pure and honest form of art and therefor more interesting and unique.
